Atari 2600 – Skeet Shoot

More like “Sheeet Shoot”, amirite?

To be fair, this game is bad but not that bad.
Every release back then, no matter how simple or shitty, was hailed as an enjoyable experience by reviewers, but a game by a small indie developer gets bashed into oblivion.
Makes no sense to me.

Skeet Shoot the long-awaited adaption of a thrilling sport that involves shooting clay disks.
You press the fire button and your character will appear in a random position while a disk flies through the sky in a random direction.
You have to time your shots well as you can only fire in three angles.
Players can choose between seventeen game variations, but as I was unable to find any differences I am confident in saying that I’ve seen the whole game in under two minutes.

The game is really ugly and features like four colors, sound effects are sparse and could be completely absent for all I care and most importantly:
you have to choose the easy difficulty.
If you start up the game normally and press the fire button, the disk will be almost instantaneously out of the screen. It’s ridiculous.

The one redeeming quality and the sole reason why I think this game isn’t that bad is the multiplayer part.
Competing for the highest score and laughing as your buddy is failing miserably over and over is always fun.
Simply put: it works for the most part. That might not be a great compliment, but it’s more than I can say about other games.

4/10
