My favorite Radiohead song? Suicidal Robot! …wait
I’m pretty sure you’ve played this game and if not, you have at least heard about it.
Let me remind you anyway.
Berzerk is an arcade port of the popular shooting game by the same name, developed by Stern Electronics and released in 1982.
You control a dude who’s sent into an abandoned factory filled with killer robots and your sole mission is to wipe them from the face of the earth.
The place is a big maze and every wall is electrified.
Sounds pretty bad but those things are also deadly to your enemies. And they are brain dead.
Yep, those idiots will blindly charge and fire at you, killing not only themselves but also their buddies.
You really gotta use this to your advantage as enemies outnumber you greatly and become faster and more aggressive as time goes on.
Clear every room before you move on to gain sweet extra points and a possible extra live.
You’ll need it for this motherf*cker:
This thing is called Evil Otto and he will kill you.
You can run, you can hide, you can blast him with every bullet you got.
He will not stop until you beg for forgiveness.
No, but seriously, this guy was what made Berzerk so special back then.
People never saw a nemesis in a video game and all of a sudden this creepy smiley face emerges and really fits the bill.
He materializes out of nowhere, is immortal, can move through walls and even kills his own minions if they dare to stand in his way.
You’re lucky he’s comparatively slow but as soon as you get rid of the last robot he will charge at you full speed.
Better leave the room before it’s too late.
There is no ending in Berzerk. Just try to get as many points as possible.
The current WR is about 400 k…good luck.
There isn’t much to complain here.
The graphics are kinda bland but I really enjoy the little details like the way your character runs and how the robot heads spin all the time.
You have to be careful the first time you play it tho.
After every start, death or room switch, you and every enemy will be placed randomly leaving you sometimes in a situation where you only have a split second to react.
Can be frustrating at first but you get used to it.
I really love this game.
I’ve played it for hours in the past, for (wayyyy) too long today and I’ll surely do so many time in the future.
