Atari 2600 – Cosmic Corridor

“I need the cover to be futuristic but also extremely cheesy and obviously from the 80’s-”
“Say no more fam!”

This little space shooter was made and published by ZIMAG, a short-lived company that released only five games.
The other titles all sound promising and I can’t wait to get my hands on them.
This one…not so much.

The expression “Lost in Space” takes on new meaning when it happens to you. You’re suspended in time – caught in hostile space between the edges of the galaxy where only your best star cruiser navigational skills can bring you home. And as if that’s not bad enough, you are under constant attack from all sorts of space vermin from alien monsters to rogue fighters. Keep your wits about you and your turbo lasers blasting and maybe you’ll have a chance.

Of course, being an open-ended game, you don’t have a chance. You will die and there’s nothing you can do about it. Should’ve stayed home instead of roaming the galaxy.

As I said before, this is a shooter.
You fly around and shoot aliens.
That’s it, bye!
Just kidding, there is slightly more.
Enemy bullets can bounce off the walls so you’re forced to always keep moving.
Your bullets don’t work like that but you have the ability to shoot in all four directions.
You also start out with six lives which is pretty generous.
Okay…that’s it.

Which is fine for these types of games and I’m not complaining.
Gameplay is important and Cosmic Corridor delivers…in some aspects.
The controls are awkward at first (do you want to fly left or shoot left?) but I got used to it fairly quickly.
Whats bothersome is when enemies are not yet on screen but their bullets are already flying at you at high speed.
Good luck avoiding that sh*t.
Your best bet is to always stay near the middle which limits the experience by slowing down the pace.
You can also simply git gud but you’ll probably get bored before that happens.

Cosmic Corridor is blocky as hell but I enjoyed the many different enemy types and the satisfying *phew phew* sound effects.

Considering that there are dozens of better shooters on the system you may want to skip Cosmic Corridor.
It’s not bad…just not special.

5/10
